Well I’ll make you a promise I’ll be brutal fucking honest
A song isn’t creative cuz you mention Dylan Thomas
And why waste words just saying shit that you don’t even mean
So you say that you’re a poet and your lyrics really show it
You recorded in your bedroom cuz you didn’t wanna blow
So don’t pay attention to the audio quality
You can make excuses but you still gotta try
So keep your eyes on the prize
It’s just a matter of when
Even when you can’t fall asleep
Thinking bout the other people who are making it cuz you’re not them
Well you can look for a sign
For someone to send
But even when you’re luck’s run out for the last damn time
And it feels like the deadest end
It’s just around the bend
Well it’s just you and your guitar you don’t need anyone so far
And you play the same old songs about a girl that broke your heart
And tell yourself that everybody wants the sadboi flavor
So you book a couple shows and you ask your friends to go
And maybe people come but they’re all people that you know
And you can’t help but wonder if they’re only doing you a favor
You can make excuses but you still gotta try
So keep your eyes on the prize
It’s just a matter of when
Even when you can’t fall asleep
Thinking bout the other people who are making it cuz you’re not them
Well you can look for a sign
For someone to send
But even when you’re luck’s run out for the last damn time
And it feels like the deadest end
It’s just around the bend

I rearranged my room today
Sometimes you need just a little change
So I moved my bed to the window side
When I rest my head I can see the morning light
It was all so simple
A small shift I know that it’ll make it better at night
I moved my bed to the middle
And I feel alright, yes I feel alright
I called my hometown friends today
We talked for hours while playing video games
Well we ain’t done that for a good long while
They were cracking jokes, I was cracking a big ol’ smile (smile!)
It was all so simple
A small shift I know that it’ll make it better at night
I called my friends for a little
And I feel alright, yes I feel alright
Well I didn’t know that I could make it all better
With nearly nothing at all
And it’s funny how the biggest things
Are so damn small
I bought some food to cook today
A little coffee and a thick 8oz filet
Well I got what I needed from the grocery store
Then I grilled that steak like I’ve never ever done before
It was all so simple
A small shift I know that it’ll make it better at night
I cooked a steak on the griddle
And I feel alright, yes I feel alright
I feel alright, yes I feel alright
