• It’s been a long road

    Where do I start

Well we were standing on the front steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art

I said I know where to go

    I’m from around these parts

I know we only got a couple hours before they close, then we can we head to a bar

    You wanna dance, don’t you

    I wanna dance with you

You be the artist I’ll be the model

You drink the water I’ll hold the bottle

You’ll meet my family out in Chicago

If you want a change of pace

You quit your job and I’ll win the lotto

You drive today and I’ll drive tomorrow

Wherever you go, you know I’ll follow

I don’t really care these days

We can paint our picture in a thousand ways

    And we paint everyday

    It was a canyon drive

    In the pouring rain

Yeah you were sitting front seat of my car eating the whole damn bag of grapes

    Burnin up inside

    We said fuck LA

I said sometimes this city needs a little bit of something, some kind of change

    You wanna dance, don’t you

    I wanna dance with you

You be the artist I’ll be the model

You drink the water I’ll hold the bottle

You’ll meet my family out in Chicago

If you want a change of pace

You quit your job and I’ll win the lotto

You drive today and I’ll drive tomorrow

Wherever you go, you know I’ll follow

I don’t really care these days

We can paint our picture in a thousand ways

    And we paint everyday

    You wanna dance, don’t you

    You wanna dance, don’t you

Yeah you wanna dance, don’t you

    I wanna dance, with you

You be the artist I’ll be the model

You drink the water I’ll hold the bottle

You’ll meet my family out in Chicago

If you want a change of pace

You quit your job and I’ll win the lotto

You drive today and I’ll drive tomorrow

Wherever you go, you know I’ll follow

I don’t really care these days

We can paint our picture in a thousand ways

    And we paint everyday

    Yeah, yeah, yeah

  • Do I know you

    Have I always

    In the springtime

    Through the fall days

    By the ocean

    In the tall waves too

    Do I miss you

    Have I always

    In the classroom

    In the hallways

    In the morning

    In the small ways too

    Oh my god it’s wonderful

    To get out of bed

    And drink too much coffee

    And smoke too many cigarettes

    And love you so much

    And eat lunch

    All I want is

    A room up there and

    You inside it

    Brush your hair then

    We crack the window
    Let the air in too

    Oh my god it’s wonderful

    To get out of bed

    And drink too much coffee

    And smoke too many cigarettes

    And love you so much

    And eat lunch

    Oh god it’s wonderful

    To get out of bed

    And drink too much coffee

    And smoke too many cigarettes

    Oh my god it’s wonderful

    To get out of bed

    And drink too much coffee

    And smoke too many cigarettes

    And love you so much

    And eat lunch

  • The first time I got drunk

Henry swapped his parents vodka with some water

We got wasted on the street

    Maybe six months later

Met a girl, she let me date her

Broke my heart, made a romantic out of me

Well I gave it all a try

I got low and I got high

And I swear I almost died outside Seattle

I met you somewhere in between

    My useless liberal arts degree

And switching out the Spirits for the Camels

Well I know one day I will find

That nothing happens for the first time

And this world ain’t got surprises left for me

When the coffee tastes the same

And my bones ache when it rains

And I got no tricks up my sleeve

And I’m all I’ll ever be

Well it won’t matter when one day there’s nothing new

    If I got you

The first time I went south

    I could see the constellations

Making pinholes in the sky like moths in wool

    I’d hardly blinked an eye

Before I found love by a fireside

Honky tonkin’, swapping songs to feed our souls

Well I know one day I will find

That nothing happens for the first time

And this world ain’t got no grand sights left to see

When the songs all sound the same

And my ears hurt when they play

And I’ve got no spring in my step

And I’m wise as I can get

Oh it don’t matter when one day there’s nothing new

    If I got you

Well we give it all a try

We get drunk and we get high

And we get hit on by the swingers at the dive bar

I met you somewhere in between

    New York and Tennessee

And I know that this’ll work if I play my part

Well I know one day I will find

That nothing happens for the first time

And this world ain’t got surprises left for me

When the coffee tastes the same

And my bones ache when it rains

And I got no tricks up my sleeve

And I’m all I’ll ever be

Well it won’t matter when one day there’s nothing new

Oh it won’t matter when one day there’s nothing new

No it won’t matter when one day there’s nothing new

    If I got you
